Wednesday in science there has been a very busy session Degree: applicants for mathematics were 9 for three years and 8 for the specialist. Almost all of the "specialist" took 110 and praise. Now this is getting a vote for granted, because it is calculated based on the weighted mean of 120 credits, 10 of the lowest marks are removed, while 30 relate to the dissertation, for which you take the default 30. If you add that:
- exams are chosen by the student,
- exams more "hard" are those of the three-year
- almost all are oral exams at the specialist,
- it's hard to take a vote other than 27 or 30 and almost impossible to be sent away (probably because they thought examiners "this exam is only 5 credits, we think someone else to saw"),
will soon understand the reasons for this inflation of the vote.
These causes, but the consequences?
For students: the good ones can not be distinguished because the votes are flattened at the top.
For the university: loss of credibility, it is impossible that all students are genes, the more likely that some votes be given. But perhaps the faculty or university funds are also distributed according to the number of graduate students and the average of the votes ... therefore less severe means more money?
For society: many young people with a piece of paper in his hand certifying skills and knowledge that may not have. Hypocrisy: we are "doctors" also the title after three years, while in Germany such as "doctor" who is completing his doctorate. Hopes to be rejected: Not all graduates can go for a job "to graduate, some will have to settle for lower paid jobs or less well regarded. I do not think it's a waste to have studied in the work if you do not use the knowledge gained, but I often hear people say "I studied 5 years, now I want to do the work that I decide."
